The Bald Hill Project is proposed to be an open pit mining operation, carried out by a contractor, comprising open pit excavation techniques using 65 tonne excavators and 55 tonne dump trucks. The open pits are expected to be relatively shallow, ranging from 35m to 65m deep. Pegmatite Ore will be mined selectively.
Several steps are involved in the extraction of the final Tantalite concentrate from the Ore. The first stage is a crushing and grinding circuit to liberate the Tantalite mineral from the other minerals that make up the Ore. A Tantalite concentrate is then produced from the ground rock using a gravity circuit to separate heavy Tantalite from the lighter gangue minerals. The product of this process is a heavy mineral concentrate containing about 10% Tantalite plus other heavy minerals including the tin-bearing cassiterite.
